DADA 2016 Geneve - Vincent Barras and Jacques Demierre - Interpreting BarDem Interpreting
Flux Laboratory Zurich: 8 February 2016, 7 p.m.
Flux Laboratory Geneva: 3 May 2016, 7 p.m.
A new creation by Vincent Barras and Jacques Demierre, Interpreting bardem interpreting, comes on the heels of the pair’s long-term work on the origins of speech.
In addition to Barras and Demierre, the performance includes the participation of male and female simultaneous interpreters who end up producing a virtuoso voiced performance by interpreting speech and translating it in the instant it is created.
The work of Vincent Barras and Jacques Demierre has been presented in several countries and various linguistic contexts. For over a decade, it has been based on Geneva linguist Ferdinand de Saussure’s research into primitive Indo-European languages. Speech as the medium of poetic expression is the essence of their work. They are continuing in the tradition of sound and poetry experimentation at the vanguard of the traditional categories of literature, performing arts, and music.
