In residency at Campus Biotech: Julie Semoroz
Sound artist Julie Semoroz sculpts sound coming from different sources (field recording, live recording, her own voice,...) with various software and hardware tools. Her practice questions post industrial society and new technology, which is one of the reasons she was intrigued by the opportunity of being immersed in an environment such as Campus Biotech.
Julie will be in residency at Campus Biotech from February 17th to March 26th 2020. She will be working closely will Didier Grandjean, Professor in the Department of Psychology and Educational Sciences and at the Swiss Center for Affective Sciences at the University of Geneva. Within those faculties, he leads the lab “Neuroscience of Emotions and Affective Dynamics”.
An initial discussion allowed to realise how many confluences existed between Julie Semoroz’s artistic practice and the research led in Didier Grandjean’s laboratory; the work being done in the field of corporeal vibrations linked to emotions for instance strongly resonated with Julie Semoroz’s own research, particularly pertaining to vibrations generated through vocal emotions.
